Tom Swing: Class of 1981

Tom was a three sport star at Stow. He was a member of the baseball team, playing shortstop, and lettered as a sophomore, junior, and senior. He was also a member of the basketball team, also lettering in his junior and senior seasons. But football was his real passion and where he excelled. Tom was the team leader at quarterback and lettered his final three seasons at Stow. He led the Bulldogs to an undefeated season his senior year, leading to the Metro league championship. It was the first undefeated season Stow had since 1933. Swing was named to the first team of the Akron Beacon Journal All Stars, as well as earning All Metro, All Distric and All Summit County team honors. He was also named WHLO radio's Player of the Week, and later Player of the Year. He held 6 passing records for Stow and was named the team MVP both his junior and senior years.

Tom earned an appointment to West Point Military Academy and a full football scholarship to the University of Akron. As a Zip, Tom earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and finance. Unfortunately, Tom died in a tragic accident in February 2004. Tom had begun a retail management career in San Diego and was working on his Masters Degree in Upper Education Administration at the time of his death.

Tom was married for 17 years to wife Cindy (nee Smith) and has four wonderful children: Amanda (18), Katelyn (17), Adam (12), and Nicholas (9). Cindy and family still reside in Ohio.
